Leigh Watson Healy, Chief Analyst with BISG information partner Outsell Inc., will describe the firm's view on issues and trends related to access and use of information and the nature of readership today.
An early member of the Outsell team, Leigh Watson Healy has co-created and led all aspects of Outsell’s activities in producing research, advisory, and consulting services for the information and publishing industry. She relies on her extensive experience in market and opportunity assessment, strategic and business planning, and product planning to serve as an executive-level advisor to a broad range of Outsell clients. As a primary spokesperson for Outsell, Leigh writes and speaks frequently about key trends and issues in the information industry. Today, she leads developing Outsell's long-term strategic relationships with industry leaders and drives delivery of trusted, value-add programs that meet clients' needs. Leigh co-chairs Outsell's Leadership Council, a member-service for CEOs and senior executives of media publishing and information provider firms.
Bharat N. Anand will apply the lessons of his acclaimed 2016 book, The Content Trap, to the challenges book publishers face today and in the near future. Random House has generously provided copies of Professor Anand's book for everyone attending the event.
Bharat Anand is the Henry R. Byers Professor of Business Administration at Harvard Business School. He is also the faculty chair of HBX, the school’s digital learning initiative that he helped create.
Professor Anand is an expert in digital strategy and corporate strategy. He created Harvard Business School’s first executive program on digital strategies for media companies. He has written over fifty articles and case studies, many in the top journals in economics, strategy, and marketing. His research and case writing has received awards, and his work has been profiled in various media outlets. He has served as faculty head for the required strategy course in the MBA program, and currently serves as faculty chair of various executive programs at the school.
Professor Anand received his B.A. in economics from Harvard College magna cum laude, and his PhD in economics from Princeton University. He is a recipient of HBS’ Greenhill Award for outstanding contributions to the school. He has advised leading organizations and entrepreneurs worldwide. He is a renowned teacher, and a two-time winner of the “best teacher award” at Harvard Business School.
His recently published book, The Content Trap: A Strategist’s Guide to Digital Change, was named by Fast Company as one of its top ten business books of 2016, and the Wall Street Journal described the book as “a call to clear thinking and reassessing why things are the way they are.”

Ashleigh Gardner of Wattpad will explain how Wattpad has leveraged a mobile-first approach to serial reading into an online platform serving more than 45 million unique visitors each month.
David Walter will use NPD Bookscan's extensive research on content purchases to illustrate how attitudes and consumption are changing across makers.
David Walter joined Nielsen Book in the UK in 2009. There he held several roles across the Metadata, Commerce Solutions and Research teams, covering data quality, research and analysis, and business development. Highlights from this period include delivering industry presentations in both the UK and Europe, authoring Nielsen Book's Metadata White Paper, and working on the setup of BookScan in Brazil. David moved to New York in early 2015, taking a leading role for Commerce Solutions and Research businesses.
David joined the NPD Group in early 2017 as Executive Director, Client Solutions, following the acquisition of the Nielsen Book US products and services by NPD. Outside of work, David plays drums, football (soccer), and is a keen traveler.
